While Less is More focuses on the energy cycle and
natural resources, this section deals with the concept
of regenerative architecture.
Recovery and requalification of former industrial zones, if well conducted, are works of immense value equal to the restoration of a square or an historical monument. In both cases we have an intervention involving memory, and elements of great testimonial, artistic and cultural value. Furthermore, the recovery of urban or architectural settlements no longer in use contributes to nurturing a sense of ‘belonging’ to one’s dwelling place. Thus it is an operation perfectly in line with the principles of sustainability. Giving value to what already exists, not only signifies decreasing the impact that the pre-existing buildings and activities may have had upon the area, but it also comes across as an implicit invitation to both present and future generations to take care of the environment and its heritage (both natural and constructed).
