We are all caught
in an inescapable
network of
mutuality [...].
Whatever affects
one directly affects
all indirectly.

[Martin Luther King Jr., 1929-1969]

The complexity and the interconnection between the subjects illustrated in S_tiles require the integration and complementary intervention of many players: the manufacturers in the sector, but also the designers, the distributors, the consumers and of course, the institutions concerned.

If one looks at the objectives of medium to long-term periods of sustainability, the idea itself of competition assumes inedited connotations, opens up new areas, and solicits newly combined efforts.

The Share section confronts issues such as the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), opportunities like the environmental certification of the district, the increasing demand for green products within the public sector (ecoprocurement), instruments like the benchmarking for sustainability, And finally, Last but not least, it provides a hint over the concept of ‘sustainable city’. This is an issue of capital importance if we consider that, for the first time in humankind’s history, the urban population outnumbers now those living in non-urban environments.

Common elements of all these issues are: the tendency to share, to exchange information, to reinforce dialogue with local communities, to overcome traditional roles (for example in the relationship between industries and designers or between manufacturers and the distribution chain).

In parallel to the Share section, the ‘cover stories’ displayed in Share is best will contain the more significant projects on the subjects of community services and infrastructures (airports, stations, underground, schools, canteens, libraries, etc.). It will also investigate how areas of recreation and relaxation are changing, including places such as shopping centres, game halls, parks, and more. These are all places that today, especially amongst very young people, have replaced areas that the preceding generations would have frequented, like the town square, clubs and circuits.
